27 Week update

I had another doctor's appointment yesterday. The babies are very active and have good strong hearts. I have finally gained some weight. I currently have a net increase of 2 lbs total for this pregnancy, not nearly enough but it is a start. All testing came back good and my blood pressure is still good and low.
I did manage to injure myself on Tuesday.  I pulled a few of my lower abdominal mussels getting up to quickly from a picnic table at a play ground. My doctor says the mussels will start to feel a little better in a week or so but won't fully heal until after the birth.
We have less than 10 weeks at this point.

26 Week update

Sorry it's been a while since I posted last.  I did have an ultrasound yesterday.  Both babies are looking good.  They both are estimated at 2 lbs 12 oz. Both are very active.  Aaron and Abby have been able to feel them move for a few weeks now. They did finally get a picture of Baby B's face this time.

Earlier this week Abby took a class at the hospital on being a big sister.  She seemed to enjoy the class and is looking forward to meeting her new siblings.
After many weeks of trial and error we have finally gotten the gestational diabetes under control.  I am doing a combination of insulin shots and Metformin. Luckily I am able to take the type of insulin that I only have to give myself shots once a day.
Last weekend we went to Saint George for the Mountain Bike festival. Abby was excited to stay in a hotel and swim in the hotel pool.  This weekend we will be going to Moab to go camping and meet up with some college friends.  I'm hoping I will still be able to keep up with everyone else.
We are trying to get all of our traveling in now because I won't be able to travel out of the SLC area once I hit 32 weeks.  Other than getting close to the due date I will also have to have stress tests done on the kids twice a week from then on until delivery.  Speaking of delivery my scheduled C-section has been moved up to week of June 16th through the 20th due to the size of the kids.  Most likely it will either be June 16th or the 18th (if I make it that far).
We have been very busy trying to get the house ready for the new additions. This included having the basement remodeled so that it would be more useful to us. We also added a third bathroom in the basement. Our next goal is to convert what was the guest bedroom into Abby's new room.  This will include a few cans of purple wall paint.  Here's some photos of what we have done.

Week 20 update

I went to a maternal/fetal specialist at the hospital that I intend to deliver at on Thursday for my 20 week ultrasound.  Both babies are doing well. Baby A is estimated at 1.25 lbs and Baby B is estimated at 1 lb. Baby A is basically on top of Baby B so it is hard for the ultrasound technician to get good pictures of Baby B.  The babies are also big enough now that they can't get them both in the same picture. They also gave us a DVD with a video of some of the ultrasound but I haven't figured out how to get it loaded yet.

At my last prenatal visit my doctor prescribed me a blood glucose monitor.  I have been testing my blood glucose for about a month now.  While my levels during the day are pretty good they have determined my fasting (8 hour) blood sugar is too high.  Therefore the maternal/fetal specialist diagnosed me with gestational diabetes.  I will be discussing my options with my doctor on Thursday this week.

18 Week Pregnant Photo

Aaron and I went what will be our last romantic getaway this past weekend.  We went to St. George and mostly hiked around Snow Canyon State Park.  I'm pretty proud I could still hike over 3 miles. Here's a few photos from the weekend.

Week 17 Doctor's update

I had a doctor's appointment today. I have been able to put on 6 lbs since the last appointment. My goal was closer to 10 so I have a little make up work to do. My doctor was able to use the Doppler to hear both heartbeats for the babies today and they were both in a healthy range.  Other than not gaining enough weight, my blood pressure was excellent (118 / 77) and labs showed normal levels of protein in my urine.

I have had some weird headaches in the last month that she diagnosed as tension headaches. She gave me some stretches and the OK to use up to 1000 mg of Tylenol.  She also recommended that I start getting massages and get fitted for a maternity belt. Hopefully these will help.

Week 16

Currently we are in week 16.  Most of my nausea is gone but am still feeling quite a bit of fatigue. The babies seem to be growing because I am as well.  I can feel some movement but no movement from the outside yet.
I will have my next doctors appointment one week from today.  We will be getting another ultrasound around week 20. We have decided not to find out the genders of the babies. So sorry, everybody will have to wait until June to find out.  If you were wondering our 40 week due dates are July 5th and July 6th, but we won't be going past June 23.  On average twins come at about 36 weeks.  I am hoping to make it to 38 weeks.

Yes I know I am big already.

12 Week Ultrasound Photos

Here are some of the ultrasound photos from December 20th.  I was about 12 weeks along. From these pictures the doctor could see separate placentas. This means that they are Diamniotic/Dichorionic which is the set of twins least likely to have complications.

Many people have commented that twins run in Aaron's family.  True there's a few sets of twins in Aaron's family on the Luptak (his dad's) side.  Unfortunately I can't stick this on him.  While fraternal twins is a genetically predisposed trait, it can only come from the maternal side.  The woman (me) has to have the genetic trait to release two eggs at one time.  No man can make a woman due this.  After doing some research we (my sister and I) found that there is at least one other set of fraternal twins on my father's mother's side.  Since my grandmother only had sons it was forgotten about. This does mean since I have twins on my side and Aaron has twins on his the chances of Abby or any other daughter having twins is greatly increased.
